Join Watson Adventures on a tasty, food-centered scavenger hunt!
Explore the historic heart of the Barbary Coast and the immigrant culture that has made it thrive. In Jackson Square, you’ll uncover the history of the city’s oldest and handsomest buildings, survivors of the 1906 earthquake. In Chinatown, you may think you’ve left America as you hunt for answers among stores, herb shops, temples and even a fortune cookie factory. And in the North Beach section you’ll find Francis Ford Coppola’s headquarters and check out cafes and bakeries that will make you think you’ve gone to Italy. Along the way, youll see the haunts of such writers as Jack Kerouac, Robert Louis Stevenson, Bret Harte and Amy Tan. Youll also be challenged not to overindulge on snacks ranging from Chinese moon cakes to gelato.

The Coachella Valley Association of Governments is hosting its annual Used Oil Filter Recycling Events in cities throughout the Valley. Events are open to all Coachella Valley residents. All events will be held at select AutoZones from 9 a.m. to noon. Any resident who brings in used oil and a used oil filter will receive a new oil filter (of equal of lesser value) for free. Free filters will only be available on scheduled event days. These events are funded by a grant from CalRecycle.

In this weekend program, Joanne Martin Braun, PhD and Alan Schwartz will use the wisdom of the Shambhala Buddhist teachings to go more deeply into our relationship with money. How did we get here? How do our beliefs and emotions about money affect our lives? How can we bring more health and vitality to our financial situation? How might our own financial health allow us to expand our personal vision? Through contemplations, exercises, and meditation we will explore how our financial life is not a problem to be fixed but an opportunity to cultivate wisdom, relaxation, strength, and inspiration in working with our resources. Joanne Martin Braun says: “Theres a lot to be said for living our lives from a more creative, generous and open point of view. Money is an issue we often get stuck on, but its really only one of our resources.”
Joanne Martin Braun, PhD, is the Regional Director of Northern California Shambhala. She is also a senior teacher with a particular passion for understanding how the Shambhala dharma can be applied to working with money as an uplifted part of our path. Joanne has been presenting money programs at centers throughout the country for the past 8 years.
Alan Schwartz was among the first students of Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche in the United States, and has been a student of Tibetan and Shambhala Buddhist teachings for over 35 years. A confessed serial entrepreneur, he has founded four innovative and successful restaurant and entertainment businesses, a software firm, and created an award-winning software product.
